Who Can Apply
The Basel Liver Biobank welcomes requests from both academic and industry partners:
- Academic researchers from universities, hospitals and non-profit institutions are welcome to apply. Access is provided at cost-recovery rates, covering sample search, preparation and shipping. Provision of samples to academic researchers is regarded as a scientific collaboration, and co-authorship on resulting publications is expected.
- Pharmaceutical companies and biotech startups are equally welcome. Commercial access is available under a separate fee structure reflecting the full value of our collections and services.
How to Apply
To request access to samples or data, please contact us directly by email. We will then guide you through the following steps:
- Submit a written request to the biobank leadership (markus.heim@unibas.ch) describing your research project and the resources needed.
- The Resource Management Committee reviews the request based on: scientific quality, ethics approval, compatibility with participant consent, and available sample quantity.
- Applicants are informed about available material and estimated costs for sample provision.
- Upon approval: signing of a Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) for samples and/or a Data Transfer Agreement (DTA) for data.
- Provision of resources by the biobank's operational management.
- invoicing of costs to the applicant.
Ethics & Consent
All samples in the Basel Liver Biobank were collected with informed patient consent for use in research, including by external laboratories and international collaborators. Researchers are responsible for obtaining any additional ethics approval required by their own institution.
